Persistent Numbness
Written by Dr. JacobsAfter gynecomastia surgery, there will always be decreased sensation of the skin of the chest and the nipples. This is usually temporary and full or nearly-full sensation returns very slowly during the months after the operation. Very rarely will there be total numbness of the chest skin. Should this occur, however, there is no treatment possible.
Persistent pain or tenderness may also occur after gynecomastia surgery. This may be due to damaged muscle, nerve injury or scar tissue. Sometimes an injection of cortisone may help the situation – surgery is only rarely an answer. Unfortunately, there is not much else that can be done.
