Dr. Elliot W. Jacobs has performed well over 1200 gynecomastia procedures to date. He utilizes minimal incisions in a 60-90 minute ambulatory operation performed in a fully accredited (by JCAHO) office surgical suite in Manhattan. Anesthesia (twilight sleep) is administered by a board certified anesthesiologist. You will be sleeping gently, without any pain and totally unaware of the passage of time.
Most of the surgery involves the use of aggressive liposuction utilizing instruments of Dr. Jacobs own design. Occasionally, an additional small incision around the edge of the areola is necessary. The incisions are closed with dissolving sutures under the skin - no stitches to be removed. In the vast majority of patients, the skin excess will shrink and tighten by itself. There is mild soreness after surgery for several days (it feels like you just did 200 pushups) and you will receive a prescription for a pain medication. You should be able to return to sedentary work within one week (sometimes less) and return to full exercise training after three weeks.
